New Hair, New Body

I changed my hair color. I loved my red hair, but the upkeep was too hard while being pregnant. Since I can only use ammonia free dye, it limits my options, especially on a tight budget. I normally go to Sally’s for my hair dye, because it’s more affordable for my needs, but their ammonia free red color selection is very limited. I thought about doing an ombre look, but I decided to do something I’ve been wanting to try for awhile. I went dark; the last time I did this was in high school, but the color lightened too quickly, and it washed me out, since I wasn’t as skilled with my makeup techniques back then. I knew this time I could pull it off, and figured my lack of sun exposure would keep the color from lightening up, so I found the ammonia free dye at Sally’s, and went for it. It turned out darker than I wanted, but it’s working out, and I’m okay with it. I need to go back and do a touch up. I probably could have used more dye the first time around, since I have so much hair, which I plan to do soon. Overall, I’m liking it, and will probably keep it for some time post baby.

This is one of the first outfits I’ve felt fairly normal in while pregnant. I’m not a huge fan of most of the maternity clothes that I have access to in my price range, so I thrift a lot and try to find ways around it. At this point, comfort wins out over fashion, so I haven’t wanted to take too many pictures recently. I didn’t want to bore anyone with my limited comfort choices, P.S. it involves a lot of black. I have stocked up on many large dresses, so that’s getting me through the times when I need to be more put together instead of just hanging out in leggings all the time. Everything in this picture is thrifted, other than the maternity tights, and Urban Outfitter shoes.

It’s finally gotten chilly in Florida, and I’m so happy. I hope it stay’s this way til the baby comes in April, but probably not.

My Must Have Summer Outfit

Alice Jane just had to take pictures with me Saturday. She wouldn’t let me have any pictures until she had a couple. That pose she struck was too much. We had a great time watching David’s band Convalesce play. Alice Jane loved it, she had the best time head banging and clapping; it was so cute.

This is definitely my most worn outfit this summer. I can’t get over this dress that I thrifted. It’s actually Coldwater Creek but I love everything about it. I was worried it wouldn’t fit since it’s a size 14 petite but I love the fit and can’t get enough. The vest was given to me and is also a favorite. I got the hat (similar) from forever 21 and the shoes are a wonderful thrifted find. The glasses are Zero UV and a favorite. Finally this necklace is from West Village Tribe. We visited a market in New Jersey and West Village Tribe was there selling their jewelry. I loved everything they had and they were so sweet to give Alice Jane a huge sunflower. I love that this necklace goes with everything in my wardrobe and since it ties I can change the length; which is very convenient for me.

I have been loving this backpack that my husband surprised me with. So far it’s his best surprise ever. I had been obsessed with finding a back pack that was smaller and could serve as a purse. I bought one on ebay that I loved but it wasn’t leather and the strap broke, I tried to fix it but it broke again while we were in New Jersey. I didn’t even realized but my husband went online to find a backpack with good reviews that wouldn’t break on me. I’m completely in love with it. The size is better then the one that broke too because this one actually fits a bottle water; it will be perfect for Disney.

Brooklyn and Central Park Adventures

I finally edited my pictures from New York. I loved spending the night and waking up in Brooklyn; morning is my favorite time in the city. We stopped for breakfast at a Dominican restaurant, it was so good but the coffee was the best part. I was in NewYork hanging out while my husband filmed a music video on the roof. I was able to get the pictures at the top before we headed to Central Park. I could see every major building from that roof; it was beautiful.

Next stop was Central Park. I had to put my hair up since it was so hot; I’ve finally mastered the braided crown.  We walked all around Central Park filming music acts. There is so much entertainment in Central Park, everyone performing there is so talented and it’s way cheaper then going to a concert. Tipping is still very appreciated and much deserved for the performers. Central Park is incredibly large and I realized too late that I wore the wrong shoes but to my credit, I had no idea we were going to Central Park.

Although my shoes became uncomfortable after hours of constant walking, I wore the right clothes. This romper was light and airy. Sometimes is looks like a dress but thankfully it’s not; no sudden gust of wind is going to lift this outfit up. I actually purchased this romper at a thrift store and I was worried that I would have to replace the zipper but it turned out to work fine for months. Unfortunately this was the last day the zipper worked. I thought about replacing the zipper but I love this romper so much I wanted to use it as a template to make more rompers. Plus this romper is a little short in the torso, so I can’t wait to fix that. I’ll blog as soon as I create another romper using this template. I’m not sure where the booties are from since my husband picked them up for me in Puerto Rico. I absolutely love these booties and wear them all the time. My glasses are from ZeroUV on Amazon and I wear them non stop. I just love how they look and fit my face, plus they are incredibly comfortable.

We didn’t spend the whole day in New York since we wanted to get back to our daughter in New Jersey. But I was able to get some Ramen before we left, which I was so happy about. One of my goals in going to New York was to get Ramen. I didn’t get a picture of the Ramen since my phone was acting up (I’ve had to get a new phone since then). I think Ramen is so photographic. I also really want to learn to make ramen though, but for now the noodles at the Asian market is pacifying me.

Enchanted Trees and the Perfect Boater Hat

I’ve always been obsessed with these trees. This is the exact location I wanted my wedding but it rained that day so it wouldn’t have worked out. It’s still one of my favorite spots and is an ideal spot for pictures.

I recently ordered this hat from Forever 21, it was on sale as well as free shipping; you can’t beat that (unfortunately it’s no longer on sale). I recently bought a different boater hat but I loved that this was a wider brim then that one and I love the color. I’ve never seen a boater in this color and knew that it would go great with my wardrobe. I picked up this dress earlier that day before these pictures, I had just enough time to wash it first. I thought this dress might be a little small but knew if it was I could wear it as a kimono. The dress ended up fitting perfectly; I love the style and it has a great mix of forties and nineties feel. There are some button hole issues but that’s to be expected in thrift finds and it’s such a easy fix that i’m not worried.

What thrift finds have ya’ll been loving lately?

Fernandina Beach

I have been wearing this dress/kimono nonstop. I thrifted it many months ago. It’s a dress, and I originally hoped to wear it that way, but it was too small. Thankfully it buttoned all the way down and I was still able to still wear it as a kimono. I’m obsessed with wearing dresses over other dresses, shorts and pants. I love the print so much and it really goes with most things in my wardrobe. This is the second time I’ve paired them with these Urban Outfitter shorts(old). I have been wearing my vintage boots a lot this summer, I’ve had them for years but they have made their way back into my rotation. I paired the outfit with my Forever 21 hat and ZeroUV glasses.

Sailor Moon

These pictures were taken a month ago, but Disney trips and other things came first. I noticed a sailor pattern as I threw this together. I know having too much of a theme scares some people but I love getting right to that edge before Themed dressing. The striped shirt was given to me, but it is Forever 21; the pants and belts were thrifted. The hat is Forever 21 (similar) with a bow I added.

In other news, I’ve been in New Jersey visiting my husband’s family. New Jersey is so diverse and I love walking everywhere. Sunday, the 14th, we were able to go to New York City for church. While in New York we saw the Puerto Rican parade. They know how to have a parade — it was great that my daughter was able to share that experience with her Puerto Rican relatives. We were also able to walk through Time Square. I’ve been in Time Square many times, but it was nice to go with family and my daughter. I have enjoyed it while I am here but I’m excited to get back to Florida where every home and establishment has central air. However, I will miss some things: I will miss Alice Jane being able to see so many of her cousins at once; I’ll miss taking her to tree covered parks; I’ll miss the occasional cool days; and most importantly I’ll miss the bagels, cream cheese and lox.

I want to add a quick word about my husband for Father’s Day. I love that we get to spend this time with his family and the man that has been a father to him. I don’t know when we will get this chance again but I’m so happy we will have these memories if we don’t get that chance.

Ravishing Rabbit

01-1-6 01-2-4 01-3-4 01-5-3 01-6-3 01-7-3 01-11-3

I talked a little about Ravishing Rabbit before but I wanted to discuss more in-depth about how we started and where we are going.

For awhile I had been feeling that I wanted to sell clothes I altered, or clothes I loved but didn’t fit. I loved finding treasures but often I put things back because I wanted someone else to enjoy them. I loved the idea of being a thrift stylist where I could find those thrifted treasures for others.

One day I was talking to Chastaney and she mentioned how she wanted to sell baby clothes since she kept finding amazing pieces. When I told her I felt the same about adult clothes we decided to go for it. And when Brittany heard what we wanted to do, she was in.
That’s how it started. We talked a lot about how, where, and when. And we knew we had to come up with a name and that we wanted rabbit. I can’t remember who came up with the name but I know it was either Chastaney or Brittany.
Most people I know are overwhelmed by thrift stores and question how to wear pieces that seem outdated. I want Ravishing Rabbit to be that go between, where we can update clothes and unlock potential. We want to share the happiness we feel when we find a thrifted treasure. The journey has been fun as we get off the ground and continually re-imagine Ravishing Rabbit. We strive to provide items you want and that means growth and flexibility.
Before I became a blogger, I wondered if anyone would be interested in my style since it primarily consisted of thrifted altered clothing. Then I realized, I would love to see a blog about someone who primarily wore thrifted clothing. I know there are blogs like that out there but I haven’t come across any. I realized I could also bring people with me on my thrifting discoveries with a blog. Ravishing Rabbit is what finally pushed me to blog. I had thought long about blogging, but working with Ravishing Rabbit compelled me to share my ideas with others.
I’ve had such a blast sharing outfits as well as what I’m doing in my life. I have so many things to share. I hope it’s always like this. Let us know what you want to see in the shop and if you are interested in any of the outfits I have posted.
